TLDR: A slightly flawed, yet lovable metroidvania that feels just like you stepped back to the genesis days.Kinda Long Review:While i can agree with the statements that the game can feel barebones at times, it does what it sets out to do well. It offers a very oldschool feeling metroidvania experience that hooked me in.Though for it's length, content and overall game experience, i cannot recommend buying it at the full 14€ unless you really like both the skeleton theme and metroidvania style gameplay like i do. There are sadly other games around that does what this game does, but better, which doesn't make it bad, just makes it so that you should consider what to buy instead if you are low on cash.. Is this a good game? No. Is this a good Metroidvania? Yes.Here are my pros\/cons:Pros - Amazing music.- Really strong MV elements. Great exploration. Plenty of ability-gated areas and backtracking in the large world map.- Somewhat profound ending\/meaning to the game.- Items to pick up don't disappear.Cons- Clunky movement and platforming. No directly diagonal jump (can only jump up then move in air, or move on ground then jump), some platforms seem to extend longer than they appear, some things don't look like platforms and you'll unexpectedly land on them.- Clunky combat. Inconsistent hitboxes (see flying skulls and jellyfish. Basically same enemy, but hitboxes are wayyyy different). The movement issues listed above affect combat (bad jumping to avoid damage, landing on wrong platforms, etc)- On one occasion UI got in the way of a platform needing to be carefully jumped on.- Major balance issues (some enemies seem too burdensome to deal with, damage from off-screen\/falling onto damage, some bosses are either extremely easy or frustratingly difficult, etc).Overall, I'm glad I played the game. I'd suggest it for any MV fan. For the variety gamer? YMMV. Just be prepared for some frustration, but not by design. Game is just really rough around the edges, but worth a play.. I bought After Death on sale after looking at some Metroidvania style games, and decided on this one solely based on how cool the music was in the trailer.The gameplay is reminiscent of an old SNES classic. There's a huge map to explore, but each area has it's own portals for fast traveling. In total, it probably took me about 6 hours to complete, but I hear that there are two final boss fights. I've only discovered the first one so far.In terms of difficulty, I felt that I struggled more at the beginning of the game. Once you pick up a decent amount of health upgrades, it's not too hard.If you're a fan of these old school Metroidvania titles, I'd recommend this one. The music had me hooked and the feeling of nostalgia was rife throughout. Pretty cool story too.I hope more people check this game out.
